Sources say, most people who reside in West Philadelphia have fallen madly in love with it. An old school graffiti artist has come back to his old stomping ground to help residents continue to fall in love with West Philly with each train ride. Espo has teamed up with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Septa, Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative, Brownstein Group, as well as young adults in the area. Together they have produced 50 love letter murals that are spread throughout the beloved West Philadelphia. The murals are best viewd from the EL and the project consists of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd streets along the Market Street corridor, depicting the words from love letters written by the fictional character Fire to his girlfriend Barbara.
This blog is very unique and interesting. It is something most people do not really know about but would be interested in if they knew. Good blog entry c-pretty. (:
ReplyDeleteGraffiti's been coming back lately, and it's nice. There's a line between the artists and the vandals, but graffiti artists can come up with some very interesting pieces. I'll have to check out more about this.
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of the time I lived at 47th and Pine back in the day. I really enjoyed living in University City. I've admired Jane Golden's murals since she started them back around 1990.
