I checked out this book from the schools library. It had caught my interest by just the title alone. 'Careers Without College'. Although I am definitely eager to continue my education in order to be a Fashion Merchandiser major, a title like this would catch anyones attention. The book seems to be a little dated by the choice if text font on the cover, the corny pink line scribbled under the title and the fashion designs it illustrates, but the information, however, is still accurate. This book basically breaks fashion and its different fields down in different categories and explains what each one requires. Such as fashion designing, modeling, sales representatives, visual display designing, retail salesperson occupations, and the fashion world in general. For each category there are sections that explain something like a 'What You Need to Know' description, as well as the occupations necessary skills needed, required education and theses pros and cons titled as, 'The Good News and Bad News'. These list inform you about both the bad side and the good side of the career that you are reading about and planning on persuing.

The parts of the book that I favor the most are sales representation and visual display designing. I have learned that sales representators are not just buyers but they are mostly negotiators and business people that help get fashions into stores and sold. Which is basically what I want to do in school, sort of. Visual display designing is pretty self explanatory, in this occupation someone has to present a store, or mall or clothing sale by displaying it to the public. This is what we see when we look at advertisments and sale signs and clothing mannequins.
I was actually suprised that this book caught my interest the way that it has and I have a feeling that I will definitely enjoy reading this, and I am sure that this will be of great help to my upcoming Research Paper. ♥

  1. I, too, look at fonts and outdated eye-candy on printed items. I like to place the decade or the year. It sounds like the library book is really stimulating you.

P.S. Look at the assignment for Wed. It has to do with leadership, maturity, and responsibility. If you want to write additional posts, that's fine, but make sure you follow the blogging topics.
