This is a painting done by Chassériau. It conveys the image of when Macbeth 'Sees the Ghost of Banquo'. In the portrait Chasseriau is depicting Macbeth driven mad by guilt and being confronted by the specter of his crime. It looks as if Macbeth has been scared into Lady Macbeth's lap and shockingly looks at the ghost in fright. As though it may seem that everyone is looking at the ghost, they are really looking at Macbeth, being that the ghost can only be seen by Macbeth.
